The Vintage Fashion, Jewellery and Textiles Show

My hair was carefully pinned and my costume carefully picked - it was the day! My excitement could not be contained!

This was my first time at the show and I could only go on the Friday night, but I can understand why people get weekend passes! There was so much to see, so much quality densely packed into rows of stalls, I could have spent a month in there trying things on. We got slightly lost on our way there and had trouble getting back in “the land of no right turns” that is Sydney, but it was worth the effort.

My favourite pieces were a 1920s wedding dress (in the picture) which unfortunately the stall-holder didn’t have a slip for, so you can see the substitute underneath; a collection of brown felt hats from the 1940s; and a black one piece swimsuit from the 1950s, which alas was too big for me. I was very good with my hard earned cash though, and only spent $10 on a deep red A-line skirt that isn’t vintage but still very cool. My only disappointment was how little men’s clothing there was. I was looking forward to finding a few vintage waistcoats for my beloved, but they will have to be found elsewhere.

I would highly recommend the show to anyone and suggest leaving 3 times as much time as you think you’ll need. The next one is in

  1. I am sure it was a great show. I am a fan of vintage collections as well. I have to get out more to catch some of these shows. Browsing through womens fashion online isn't going to cut it.
